On average, enterprises that\u00a0shift\u00a0 their existing VMs to the cloud\u00a0can reduce their\u00a0IT server footprint by 54\u00a0percent and cut their budgets by 45 percent, according to\u00a0a survey by\u00a0TSO Logic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the survey of more than 10,000 servers and 25,000 VMs, the report finds that many of the physical servers currently deployed are at least three years old. \u00a0Over the last\u00a0three years considerable advances in chip technologies occurred. \u00a0Intel chips in 2013 were 5th generation and used\u00a0circuits on the order of 32 to 45 nanometers. \u00a02016 chips are 9th generation and use 14 nanometer circuits. \u00a0As the circuit size shrinks, the number of transistors on the chip increase. \u00a0The result is that newer chips are significantly faster and use less energy.<\/p>\n

Aaron Rallo<\/a>, TSO Logic\u2019s CEO, said that<\/a> “the data demonstrates that there is plenty of low-hanging fruit that can easily drive significant savings for many enterprise organizations. Cloud migration is not an all-or-nothing proposition. By understanding current compute, how it\u2019s used, and the economic differentials between current and future states, you can make smarter decisions about cloud strategies and other transformation investments.\u201d<\/p>\n
