Computer Weekly<\/a> has put out a report that appears to conflict with other reports and people’s assumptions about the cost effectiveness of adopting Enterprise Search.\u00a0 Reports had suggested considerable cost savings results when enterprise search tools were given to a population of knowledge workers.<\/p>\n

The results of the Computer Weekly report point to results at the other end of the spectrum.\u00a0 Their findings are that enterprise search is complicated, and when confronted with the new tool, workers experience a huge ramp up time that inversely impacts their levels of productivity.
\nThe survey of 2000 IT managers found that 75% of them felt that it would take six months for members an enterprise search tool would be usable by their team members.\u00a0 68% said that it would take 18 to 24 months before there could be any return on investment, and 19% felt that it might take more than two years to see any ROI.<\/p>\n
