Spending on the Public Cloud is expected to tick upwards by nearly 25 percent this year to $122.5 billion, predicts IDC<\/a>, a rate that is nearly seven times the overall growth rate for IT. Their report says to expect the fast growth rate for the cloud to continue into the near future, but new factors will begin to drive the growth.<\/p>\n

Frank Gens<\/a>, chief analyst at IDC, said that<\/a> “as cloud adoption expands over the next four years, what clouds are and what they can do will evolve dramatically \u2013 in several important ways.\u00a0The cloud will become more distributed (through internet of things edge services and multicloud services), more trusted, more intelligent, more industry and workload specialised, and more channel-mediated. As the cloud evolves, these important new capabilities \u2013 what IDC calls Cloud 2.0 \u2013 the use cases for the cloud will expand dramatically expand.”<\/p>\n

Jeff Kagan, an independent industry analyst, said that<\/a> “the cloud is growing faster than we imagined a few short years ago but that does not mean all the problems we worried about a few short years ago are now solved. Most enterprises today are not able to sort their mountain of data and information yet. This mountain of information can either be a gold mine or just a big mountain depending whether you can sort and access what you have.”<\/p>\n

Jorel Perez, a San Antonio-based mobile web developer, said that<\/a> “we’ve just started that timeline. Cloud 1.0 has just ended. I think we have started Cloud 2.0 but there’s still more to come.”<\/p>\n
