Gartner says that we are slowly moving into a “post-apps” world. Gartner found that<\/a> consumers are using fewer and more capable mobile apps. \u00a0They’re also increasing their use of messaging apps in favor of social media and video.<\/p>\n

One third of people use only six to ten apps a month, a six percent decline from the previous year. \u00a0There were small decreases in the usage of social media apps, video and map apps.<\/p>\n

The types of apps that are being used more frequently are messaging and shopping apps. Apps like\u00a0Facebook Messenger, WeChat and WhatsApp are becoming more “sticky” and used by 72 percent of users at least once a day.<\/p>\n

Jessica Ekholm<\/a>,\u00a0Gartner research director, said that <\/a>“it\u2019s a move away from using native applications to something else. Consumers are getting less interested in using applications; there are far too many applications. Some of the surveys that we\u2019re doing we see that there\u2019s a stabilization in terms of app usage. How many apps they\u2019re downloading, how much time they\u2019re spending finding new applications \u2014 it\u2019s just that people are getting a little bit disinterested in that.”<\/p>\n
