Saugatuck Technology<\/a> lists the five areas that they predict will prove disruptive to IT and Technology in 2009.
\nThe list looks similar to the technologies that had big impacts in 2008:<\/p>\n

Open Source
\nSaaS
\nCloud Computing
\nVirtualization
\nSocial Computing<\/strong><\/p>\n

The report says that given the downturn in the economy that many companies will be hesitant to spend money on new technologies. Most will just be trying to keep their current operations humming.\u00a0 Open Source, Virtualization, SaaS, and Cloud Computing all offer potential avenues for reducing costs.<\/p>\n

Other predictions in the report include:<\/p>\n

– By 2010 35% of non-desktop IT operations will be running on virtual machines
\n– By the end of 2009 most software will be shipped with some components that include Open Source
\n– Companies will find a need to initiate Open Source governance to help them track the licensing and usage of Open Source in their organizations
\n– By 2012, half of the major SaaS products will be offered by pure-play SaaS companies and the remainder will be products that have been repurposed by traditional software players<\/p>\n
