The automation of transportation and logistics is dramatically reshaping how goods are moved. \u00a0It’s being called Freight as a Service (FaaS) or a sort of Logistics 2.0. \u00a0It is the result of using new technology and reimagining how logistic services should work. \u00a0Freight and parcel services are being streamlined by Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring, on-demand transportation, freight brokerage, and changes in cargo marketplaces.<\/p>\n

ABI Research predicts<\/a> that FaaS revenues will exceed $900 billion by 2030.<\/p>\n

Dominique Bonte<\/a>, Managing Director and VP at ABI Research, said that<\/a> “with an average global air cargo Freight Load Factor of as low as 44% and a structural 20% long-haul truck cargo capacity utilization deficit in the U.S., the freight industry needs to act. The last-mile freight delivery segment will experience the largest upheaval due to the rapid adoption of e-commerce and the need for faster, cheaper, on-demand delivery through new transportation modes and technologies.”<\/p>\n

Some of the technology contributing to the change with how logistics is performed are the increasing use of warehouse robotic solutions, the use of indoor-location and asset tracking, and the experimentation with drone and autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n
