Vendors are always aware of what new technologies are hot, and most or very many want to be part of the new trends to stay relevant. \u00a0But vendors often bend their sales promotion to match these trends even when the products they are marketing were developed with no particular thought given to the hot technology, often because the product was developed prior to the technology becoming relevant. \u00a0For example, vendors have been accused of cloud washing<\/a>\u00a0when legacy products were moved as-is and run as hosted applications in the cloud.<\/p>\n

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning are all some of the current top buzzwords. A report from Gartner<\/a> charges many vendors with “AI washing” in their product marketing efforts, basically over exaggerating the Artificial Intelligence capabilities of their products.<\/p>\n

But that’s today. \u00a0Gartner says that things will change quickly. \u00a0Over the next ten years Artificial Intelligence is expected to be very disruptive. \u00a0Increasingly humans will be interacting with technology, which includes both algorithms or robotics. \u00a0New digital platforms will overhaul much of the existing technical infrastructure. \u00a0By 2020, Gartner expects that AI will be in or will have touched almost every product that we purchase.<\/p>\n

Frank Chen<\/a>, a partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, said that<\/a> “our software is going to get superpowers. Computer programs will be able to do things that we thought were human-only activities: recognizing what’s in a picture, telling when someone’s going to get mad, summarizing documents.”<\/p>\n
