New advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are fueling competition among top tech companies, vying to see which can create the developer tools that will attract the biggest mindshare.<\/p>\n

Google has been in the lead with large adoption of its TensorFlow <\/a>open source toolset based on data flow diagrams. Predating TensorFlow was Facebook’s Deep Learning toolkit called Caffe\/Caffe2<\/a>. Both Caffe and TensorFlow have become popular.<\/p>\n

Now, coming somewhat late to the game, Amazon and Microsoft are teaming up with an Open Source Deep Learning platform that they are calling Gluon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Matt Wood<\/a>, general manager of AI and deep learning services at AWS, said that <\/a>“developers who are new to machine learning will find this interface more familiar to traditional code, since machine learning models can be defined and manipulated just like any other data structure. More seasoned data scientists and researchers will value the ability to build prototypes quickly and utilize dynamic neural network graphs for entirely new model architectures, all without sacrificing training speed.”<\/p>\n

Gluon is a Python-based application programming interface. Amazon intends to use it with the MXNet AI framework, and Microsoft will be integrating it with their Open Source Cognitive Toolkit.<\/p>\n
