Hu Yoshida, CTO for Hitachi Data Systems, identified <\/a>five areas that IT Professionals are looking for in storage systems.\u00a0 With reduced budgets this year, technology choices are being made after considerable thought about how to maximize capital expenditure investments.<\/p>\n

The investment priorities are:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Virtualized Storage Systems.\u00a0 Many enterprises are currently only utilizing 20-30 percent of their total available storage capacities.
\n2.\u00a0 Tiered Archive of Unstructured Data.\u00a0 Companies will tier their data storage and move data based on policies to the most efficient storage tier.
\n3.\u00a0 Data de-duplication.\u00a0 Enterprises will save money to better utilize their existing storage by using techniques like compression and data de-duplication.
\n4.\u00a0 Risk Mitigation.\u00a0 Companies are concerned with security and how best to protect the data that they store.
\n5.\u00a0 Power and Cooling.\u00a0 Companies are looking for ways to save on power and cooling costs related to their storage hardware.\u00a0 A “Clean and green” IT infrastructure can improve the bottom line with energy efficiency.<\/p>\n
