Cisco is back again with their annual estimate<\/a> of how much data the world is churning out.\u00a0 Cisco predicts that by 2021 the annual amount of data created will exceed 847 zettabytes, a factor of four increase over the amount of data created in 2016.<\/p>\n

Data centers are also growing to support the increase in data.\u00a0 By 2021 data centers will be storing 2.6 zettabytes of data, also an increase of a multiple of four.\u00a0 The amount of data classified as “big data” will grow by a factor of eight and account for nearly one-third of all data stored in data centers.<\/p>\n

Kip Compton<\/a>, vice president of Cisco\u2019s Cloud Platform and Solutions Group, said that<\/a> “data-center application growth is clearly exploding in this new multi-cloud world. This projected growth will require new innovations especially in the areas of public, private and hybrid clouds.”<\/p>\n
