Orchestration is the optimization of processes that currently exist and which often involve human interactions that are often repetitive.\u00a0 Orchestration also includes the re-engineering or streamlining of processes which improve them by deleting, rearranging and reassigning tasks.\u00a0 Automation is a layer above orchestration that adds functionality that improves processing and often involves the introduction of software or hardware to complete the tasks.<\/p>\n

Lori MacVittie<\/a>, technical evangelist at F5 Networks,\u00a0noted that<\/a> “the key here is to recognize the difference between automation and orchestration and how they relate to one another. Automation is about codifying tasks and orchestration is about codifying processes. Orchestration takes advantage of automation by reusing these basic building blocks.”<\/p>\n

Workflow orchestration helps businesses improve their operational efficiency, productivity and also make more effective strategic decisions.<\/p>\n

A recent study by Research and Markets<\/a> found that the workflow orchestration market is expected to grow to $50 billion by 2022, based on an annual growth of nearly 30 percent.<\/p>\n
