46 percent of businesses are now using Open Source. Those numbers come from a Forrester Research survey of 2200 IT executives<\/a>. The numbers keep rising, and many are predicting that the tough economic climate will only be a further incentive for companies to choose Open Source.<\/p>\n

The report sees the use of Open Source as a gradual waterfall of acceptance. As businesses become more comfortable with their Open Source pilot projects, they are all the more likely to choose Open Source for their next round of projects.<\/p>\n

The Forrester report forecasts that companies will tend to move away from single vendor stacks and pick best-of-breed Open Source solutions at much lower price levels. It’s likely that Open Source integration services will be in strong demand.<\/p>\n

But the report stresses that many companies still have no internal policies around Open Source or criteria to use in the selection or Open Source.<\/p>\n
