Apple and Google are two companies that come to mind when you think innovation. Google’s recent patent for a waterborne data center is another great example in innovation. SaaS and Cloud computing has pushed the necessity for companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft to seek out new locations and facilities for building massive data centers.<\/p>\n

Google has taken the problem head-on be coming up with a new design<\/a>: a data center located on a ship, platform, or on shore that uses tidal motion of the sea to generate electricity and seawater for equipment cooling<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Google’s new data center would be much like an oil rig powered by wave farms.<\/p>\n

The benefits of the design:
\n– potentially self-sustaining water-cooled and water-powered facilities
\n– no property tax or land purchases or leases
\n– little in the way of state or city government red tape involved in setting up the facility.<\/p>\n
