80 percent of office workers spend more than an hour in dealing with their emails everyday, and nearly 40 percent of people are spending 2 or more hours on email.\u00a0 These are the results of a survey conducted by AIIM<\/a> and sponsored by EMC and ASG.<\/p>\n

The email problem has been with companies for years and now the problem is only growing.\u00a0 Company IT staff are simply overwhelmed in the task of managing the volume of their email data.\u00a0 This despite the urgency of the task:\u00a0 The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure have had rules around for more than two years around being able to search in a timely fashion for company emails for purposes of eDiscovery.<\/p>\n

IT staff cite the two biggest problems of mangaging email data as:
\n– Sheer Overload
\n– Ability to search and recover older email<\/p>\n

Only 10 percent of organizations have done any sort of enterprise-wide email management initiatives.\u00a0 20 percent of companies are planning to start a project to try to bring email under control.\u00a0 And only 16 percent of organizations have any retention policies in place.<\/p>\n

The bottom line of the report is that email remains a huge problem for many companies, and companies are putting themselves at risk for not sufficiently investing in a plan to get the problem under control.<\/p>\n
