Chatbots, the sometimes amusing, sometimes annoying, and sometimes helpful software that tries to simulate conversations with users.\u00a0 The potential is big, and businesses are wagering a lot of money that chatbots can help their business.\u00a0 Global Markets Insights estimates<\/a> that the chatbot market size will be more than $1.34 billion by 2024.\u00a0 Initially the main applications where chatbots are being deployed include marketing and advertising activities.<\/p>\n

Many businesses see chatbots as a way for them to improve their ability to do customer service.\u00a0 It allows them to be able to interact with customers 24\/7.\u00a0 Chatbots can be used to help answer questions and to explain products and services.<\/p>\n

The chatbot market is growing at a rate of 53 percent every year.\u00a0 Interaction with chatbots is either through text or voice.\u00a0 As of 2017, Global Markets Insights found that 83 percent of the market used on-premise chatbots.<\/p>\n

Anamita Guha<\/a>, product manager at IBM Watson, told InfoQ in an interview<\/a> that “in the future, I think everything will be a conversational interface. For example, you will be able to instruct anything, from your phone to your watch to your car, to perform an activity, and they will all have a working memory of the task. We already live in a world where transactions are done through biometrics like eye tracking or fingerprints. As these futuristic notions come together, they will ultimately allow developers and technologists who are building this future to obtain a larger digital footprint on someone and eventually personalize how one lives.”<\/p>\n
