As both software and hardware technologies advance, so does our ability to model and simulate the world around us digitally.\u00a0 Digital twins pair a computer simulation of a physical object with an actual object or system.\u00a0 Computer simulation is nondestructive and often a considerably cheaper way to study and predict how objects or systems will interact with the environment.<\/p>\n

Every aspect of an object can be accounted for in the model, so it\u2019s possible to work with the physics, data sets and analytics of the model and be able to make very accurate predictions about how the object will respond in real life.<\/p>\n

Brad Shimmin<\/a>, Service Director at GlobalData, said that<\/a> “companies are spending heavily on laying the foundations of a company-scale digital twin \u2014 namely big data and AI… These two areas saw a combined increase of more than an 11% increase on average. Big data platforms on their own saw a massive 19% increase in spending over the past year…. As companies come up to speed on AI and big data, there will be continued efforts by IoT players in driving digital twin-enabling technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n
