It used to be that data retention policies were primarily centered on human-created documents and data.\u00a0 With the growth of the internet and development of high-powered computers and sensors, that has all changed. Data generated by sensors and software is growing rapidly. Data backups for the most part still manage to keep up with the flow using clever techniques like compression and incremental change management, but for how long?<\/p>\n

Victoria Grey<\/a>, chief marketing officer at\u00a0Aparavi , said that<\/a> “unstructured data growth causes a domino effect in increased management, cost, and complexity, and these IT pros and many more are experiencing growing pains. Long-term retention at an affordable cost, with the flexibility to keep archived files accessible no matter where they are stored, is a requirement for managing data today and forever.”<\/p>\n

A survey by Aparavi<\/a> found that 50 percent of IT managers say that long-term retention of data is challenging. Being able to complete backups in a timely manner is one of the biggest problems.<\/p>\n
