Compared to most on-premise IT centers, cloud offerings from major vendors, are more secure.\u00a0 Typically security problems are the result of improperly implemented policies.\u00a0 Gartner estimates<\/a> that 95 percent of cloud security failures are a result of the customer making a mistake.<\/p>\n

Andrzej Stella-Sawicki<\/a>, vice president and COO CloudFerro<\/a>, commented that<\/a> “threats related to data breach as a result of failure, human error or cybercrime occur regardless of whether data is processed on own servers or in the cloud, while public cloud operators have processes and personnel that minimize risk.”<\/p>\n

But Gartner says that users are still right to worry about cloud security — in fact, Gartner says that cloud security tops the list of problems that companies have to worry about. Failure to be vigilant can potentially result in unauthorized access to cloud data and data leaks.\u00a0 To secure data to prevent fraud and cyber thefts, businesses are expected to globally spend $400 billion over the next two years.<\/p>\n

Jay Heiser<\/a>, research vice president at Gartner, said that<\/a> \u201cCIOs need to ensure their security teams are not holding back cloud initiatives with unsubstantiated cloud security worries. Exaggerated fears can result in lost opportunity and inappropriate spending.\u201d<\/p>\n
