Oracle and IBM.\u00a0 Big names.\u00a0 Big vendors.\u00a0 But are they being dropped from the pack?<\/p>\n

Mark Murphy<\/a>, analyst at JPMorgan, said in June 2018 that<\/a> “only 6.5% of vendors voted for Oracle as being indispensable to their operations. At the same time, Amazon\u2019s importance to CIOs showed material improvement.”<\/p>\n

Thomas Labrecque<\/a>, Professor of Business Technology at Villanova, wrote that<\/a> “despite its slow-and-steady movement toward newer product and service offerings, IBM is still well-anchored in past business models and business units (which it still must jettison). IBM is revered as an elder, but not yet widely celebrated as an industry innovator, certainly not like Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon or even Microsoft.”<\/p>\n

Matt Assay<\/a>, Head of the Developer Ecosystem at Adobe, wrote that<\/a> “Maybe [IBM and Oracle] are reconciled to sitting at the children\u2019s table of cloud, but the problem for both IBM and Oracle is cloud is eating their existing businesses. It has eaten the server business and now starting to feast in earnest on software infrastructure, including the database, which is the profitable heart of these companies. IBM\u2019s revenue implosion has been on display quarterly for years. “<\/p>\n
