Analysts seldom can let trends happen spontaneously; they would prefer to be able to add their signature to the trend or at least to explain the trend with their own special twist.\u00a0 That’s exactly what Gartner is doing with a recent report by\u00a0 Gartner that tries to define exactly what Cloud Computing is.<\/p>\n

According to Gartner<\/a>, true Cloud Computing needs to meet this definition:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 The Cloud Computing provider must offer off-the-shelf service-based access that can be configured to match specific customer needs
\n2.\u00a0 The solution should be able to scale capacity up and down based on current needs of the customer
\n3.\u00a0 Services are shared among multiple customers.\u00a0 IT resources are used to maximum efficiency.
\n3.\u00a0 The Cloud Computing solution must be metered by use.\u00a0 Methods of metering include subscriptions, fixed plan or pay-as-you-go
\n4.\u00a0 To Gartner, the Cloud implies the Internet, so it must use protocols and formats like HTTP\/S, URLs and IPs.<\/p>\n
