Data center automation<\/a> is the improvement and speeding of operations within a data center facility. It involves the automation, monitoring and maintenance of tasks and processes that have traditionally been handled manually by human operators.\u00a0 Potential benefits<\/a> include reduced staff workload, reduced costs and better security management.<\/p>\n

The data center automation market was nearly $6 billion in 2017 and is expected to grow to more than $16 billion by 2023, according to a marketing report by 360 Market Updates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The three areas now most commonly automated in data centers are patching and updating, configuration management, and request management, like storage provisioning and user registration, according to a survey by ZDNet.\u00a0 The survey found that roughly three-quarters of those businesses that have automated their facilities experienced operational efficiencies.<\/p>\n

Automation has the potential to make operations less error prone.\u00a0 Gartner says that<\/a> “more than 80% of all mission-critical IT service outages are due to people and process errors and failures, with a significant number of those due to a lack of coordination among change, release, and configuration management.”<\/p>\n
