AMR Research<\/a> has released a list of the top fifty enterprise application vendors.
\nThe top ten vendors in the list include:<\/p>\n

1 SAP ($15.801 Billion)
\n2 Oracle ($8.559 Billion)
\n3 Sage Group ($2.408 Billion)
\n4 Infor ($2.208 Billion)
\n5 Dassault Syst\u00e8mes ($1.958 Billion)
\n6 Siemens PLM ($1.405 Billion)
\n7 Microsoft ($1.308 Billion)
\n8 Cadence ($1.038 Billion)
\n9 PTC ($1.037 Billion)
\n10 Salesforce.com ($1.023 Billion)<\/p>\n

Only revenues from ERP, SCM, Supply Management, PLM, ECM and CRM were included.
\nIt does not include office productivity software, like Microsoft Office, or Business Intelligence software.<\/p>\n

The report points out that 60 percent of enterprise software vendors have application stacks built on Java.
\nThe report then goes on to comment that \u201cgiven the weak macro economic backdrop, the enterprise applications market had a surprisingly solid year in 2008.\u00a0 2009, however, will be a whole different story. Not only will vendors be impacted by the fragile economy, but 33 out of the top 50 vendors will have to reevaluate their commitment to the Java programming language.”<\/p>\n

That comment doesn’t make too much sense.\u00a0 These large software companies are not any time soon going to lose their dominance in the industry.\u00a0 SaaS and Open Source are looming threats, but they won’t capture the market overnight.\u00a0 While some of them may not be too happy that Oracle will have ultimate control over the Java language, there are really very few alternatives that they could migrate to.\u00a0 And a project to migrate an enterprise application to a non-Java technology stack would be a huge undertaking — something that would likely take years.<\/p>\n
