Technology is disruptive. It’s the nature of technology. Consider the Gutenburg printing press, the lightbulb, the computer. All of these innovations had enormous impact on the way we live and work. The cloud and the concept of remote computing is one of those kinds of innovation, and it is proving to be very disruptive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, the cloud became a no-brainer, a technology adopted by both small and large businesses. Forrester found that 60 percent <\/a>of North American enterprises now use the public cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expect to see more of the same in 2019. Ovum found that 20 percent<\/a> of business processes have moved to the cloud, but 80 percent of mission-critical workloads remain on-premise. Expect more of those legacy applications to make the transition to the cloud. Gartner says that by 2025 most organizations will have migrated from their on-premise data centers to the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Cloud Computing has managed to move past the worry of security when computing is performed remotely, the worry hasn’t totally vanished. Security should be a top consideration for any cloud deployment or development. Expect businesses to invest even more in security and to place a higher priority on security when developing applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dave Bartoletti<\/a>, Vice President at Forrester, wrote that<\/a> “In 2019, cloud computing will firmly establish itself as the foundation of tomorrow\u2019s enterprise application platforms. It\u2019s the best way to create the compelling software experiences that your customers demand and your competitors fear. Cloud spending will spike as enterprises eagerly adopt cloud tools and services wherever and however they can. Buckle up: The cloud ride is accelerating.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
