A Black Cloud may be coming to many cloud sites. A “Black Cloud” or “Software Defined Perimeter (SDP)” is a need-to-know security model. Infrastructure is hidden or “black” and does not reveal DNS or IP information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Software Defined Perimeters are an alternative to traditional security tools like VPNs and firewalls. The problem is that more and more devices are gaining access to networks. Telecommuting, IoT, and connections from smartphone and tablet devices are making the management of incoming traffic difficult — the perimeter or attack surface of network is bigger and harder to manage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, Gartner began predicting<\/a> the demise of the traditional VPN. “By 2021, 60 percent of enterprises will phase out network VPNs for digital business communications in favor of software-defined perimeters.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
