Are manufacturers ready to take on new ‘smart manufacturing’ technologies like Cloud Computing, Cognitive Computing, IoT, automation, and a new generation of robotics? Unfortunately, the answer may be ‘No’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only 13 percent of surveyed large and medium-sized manufacturers said that they felt prepared and had adopted new technologies, according to a report from Tacton. Although<\/a>21 percent said that they had a strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But 40 percent thought that they lacked technical skills, and 33 percent said that they didn’t have the right leadership skills, and half said that just didn’t know enough about new technologies to even know where to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, a survey by Plutoshift <\/a>found that IoT initiatives were not happening at the speed that analysts predicted. The report again cited lack of technology savvy as one of the main problems. Two-thirds of manufacturers said that their lack of understanding of technology means that they haven’t done much to change their existing processes, and until they are able to do that, they’re not operating an an efficient level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
