EDiscovery? What’s that? That seems to be the reaction from many small law firms. Many are reluctant to get involved with EDiscovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advance Market Analytics estimates<\/a> that the EDiscovery market size will grow globally to $18 billion by 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Mandel<\/a>, a consultant with the e-discovery solutions provider Driven, said, for example, that<\/a> “I don\u2019t think that they\u2019ve [small law firms] caught on. I think that many of them are still in the ostrich phase.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of the reluctance to take on EDiscovery is the hassle and expense it is to buy hardware and software, servers and licenses, and on top of that to recruit and hire staff that are able to understand and skillfully use the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small law firms often rely on the experience and expertise of businesses that outsource EDiscovery resources. Alex Hagen<\/a>, head of the litigation group at Ellis & Winters told LegalTechNews<\/a> that “I can\u2019t even begin to keep up. That\u2019s why I think it\u2019s important to have others who are more embedded in the technology that can tell us \u2018OK this is where we need to be looking, this is what we need to be considering.'”<\/p>\n
