ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) <\/a>systems are changing. ERP software has long had a reputation for being massive in its reach across the enterprise, notorious for its one-system-to-rule-them-all approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the cloud is changing that as businesses migrate their IT operations away from on-premise. No longer are expensive multi-year customizations the norm. Cloud offerings are now more nimble and more configurable. Easy configurability lets businesses upgrade to newer software versions rather than be locked into an old version with no hopes of upgrading. The massive costs of reimplementing customizations to work in a newer version had made upgrades cost prohibitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expectations about the scope of ERP is expanding too. ERP now includes not only business finance and accounting, but also things like operations optimization, business process change and change management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darshan Shah<\/a>, senior vice president of delivery at Intelligence North America, said that<\/a> “You still need core competencies like ABAP [Advanced Business Application Programming]<\/a>, systems administration and business functional skills, but those skills alone will not suffice. The paradigm shift happening in the market is that staffers have to be both technical and functional. It’s no longer just one or the other.”<\/p>\n
