A mid-year cybersecurity report<\/a> reveals that in the first six months of 2019 there have already been over 3800 reported incidents of data breaches, up 54 percent from 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inga Goddijn<\/a>, Executive Vice President of Risk Based Security, said that<\/a> “Looking over the first six months of 2019, it is hard to be optimistic on the outlook for the year. The number of breaches is up and the number of records exposed remains stubbornly high. Despite best efforts and awareness among business leaders and defenders, data breaches continue to take place at an alarming rate.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goddijn said that “quarter after quarter the pattern has repeated itself. The vast majority of incidents are attributable to malicious actors outside an organization.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\nIn 2015, John Chambers<\/a>, said that<\/a> “there are only two types of organizations: those that know that they’ve been hacked and those that don’t yet know. But they’ve all been hacked.”\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ted Schlein<\/a>, a venture capitalist with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers , said that<\/a> “prevention is not sufficient and you\u2019re going to have to invest in detection because you\u2019re going to want to know what system has been breached as fast as humanly possible so that you can contain and remediate.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
