Growth in the content management market is poised to explode according to a market analysis report from Basex<\/a>.\u00a0 The report Content Management Systems: The New Math for Selecting Your Platform <\/em>was published in September 2009.\u00a0 Basex estimates content management sales in 2008\u00a0 to be $4.1 billion, and they expect that number to climb to $10 billion by 2014.<\/p>\n

While the report cites healthy growth at commercial vendors like Autonomy, Open Text, Fatwire and Day, the report also points to\u00a0 Open Source software in the space as being one of the main drivers behind the rapid growth in CMS.\u00a0 Basex mentions Alfresco as a leader among Open Source CMS vendors.\u00a0 Other Open Source CMS solutions mentioned in the Basex report include Joomla!, Drupal, Plone, Bluenog, Nuxeo and Acquia.\u00a0 DotNetNuke and eZPublish while not mentioned<\/a> are other players of importance in Open Source CMS.<\/p>\n

The sheer number of CMS vendors and the variety of features and options from any one vendor makes selecting and specifying any CM system
\nextremely challenging.\u00a0 Basex emphasizes the importance of getting the right system for your organization.\u00a0 And the complexity of CMS makes it a favorite target for analyst reports.\u00a0 The Basex report is just one of many analyst reports on CMS and ECM. Other analysts like CMSWatch<\/a>, Gartner and Forrester also evaluate and classify the vendors in the market, and those reports are more well-known than the one from Basex.\u00a0 Studying these vendor\/product reports is a great way to research the various CMS options.\u00a0 But if you don’t have the right skills or the time to do an adequate investigation, it is probably worth the money to bring in a consultant on a short-term basis to analyze your situation,\u00a0 and to then evaluate and recommend a CMS solution that best fits your organization.<\/p>\n
