IoT isn’t only about connecting devices like smarphones and self-driving cars. The miniaturization of electronics and the shrinking cost to produce them will power the popularity of at least a portion of the growing Internet of Things (IoT) market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Low-cost disposable microsensors, inputs and controllers will open up a category of single-use devices. It will be possible to wire every object to track and monitor some property or characteristic, like location, temperature, pressure and radiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giovanni Salvatore<\/a>, a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, said that<\/a> “once the price of biosensors falls enough, they could be used virtually anywhere.” Within five to ten years microsensors and biosensors will be part of our everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garrett Kinsman<\/a> wrote for Hackernoon that<\/a> “the shift in computing and connectivity will happen faster than expected, driven by the lowering cost of connectivity, and radial new IoT technologies. What\u2019s next\u2026 is not quite well defined. We are on the dawn of radically cheap connectivity, and disposable, ultra-powerful computing.”
