Businesses are chasing the AI hype with hopes that it will supercharge their processes and productivity. The number of AI solutions that have rolled out is notching up quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris Howard<\/a>, distinguished research vice president at Gartner , said that <\/a>“four years ago, AI implementation was rare, only 10 percent of survey respondents reported that their enterprises had deployed AI or would do so shortly. For 2019, that number has leaped to 37 percent \u2014 a 270 percent increase in four years. If you are a CIO and your organization doesn\u2019t use AI, chances are high that your competitors do and this should be a concern.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But despite the saying that “every company is a technology company<\/a>,” building technical solutions without solid skillsets is hard. Some companies are struggling. So far, most of the tools for AI have been freely available as open source projects. But those project have been primarily developer toolkits. Snapping them together to solve your business use case is easier said than done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gartner now predicts that Open Source is not going to have immediate solutions for businesses where technology is not their core product. Instead Gartner sees commercial vendors filling the gaps and building friendly UIs for businesses users to access AI tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rita Sallam<\/a>, VP analyst at Gartner, said that<\/a> “commercial platforms are being built to largely leverage and integrate with the open source ecosystem. They provide the development environment, integration with open source, and a platform for processing models at scale. They provide the enterprise mission-critical features to help improve the productivity of expert data scientists and open up the potential for model creation to a broader skill base.”<\/p>\n
