Computers of the future are expected to be able to performs many orders of magnitude faster than the computers we use today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the foundation of computers today is the use of bits that take on either a value of 1 or 0, quantum computers are based on qubits which also can take value of 1 or 0, but other quantum mechanical rules come into play that allow the possibility of a mixed state where both 0 and 1 are simultaneously superimposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much of today&#8217;s quantum computing research is focused on constructing computers that operate at very cold temperatures and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Superconducting_quantum_computing\">which use superconducting materials. <\/a>Reports of quantum computing experiments performed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-019-1666-5\">Google and IBM<\/a>, for example, are based on superconducting materials.  But other researchers are exploring the use of silicon and other semiconductors which would enable quantum computing to be possible at higher temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There have been recent research that report breakthroughs in getting qubits to communicate with each other.  A <a href=\"https:\/\/scitechdaily.com\/quantum-computing-breakthrough-silicon-qubits-interact-at-long-distance\/\">group at Princeton<\/a> developed a way for qubits to interact and transmit messages at relatively large distances.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.intel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/04\/james-s-clarke-bio.pdf\">James Clarke<\/a>, director of quantum hardware at Intel, <a href=\"https:\/\/scienceblog.com\/513059\/lowly-silicon-quantum-bits-can-establish-a-long-distance-relationship\/\">said that<\/a> &#8220;the wiring or \u2018interconnects\u2019 between multiple qubits is the biggest challenge towards a large scale quantum computer.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/phy.princeton.edu\/people\/jason-petta\">Jason Petta<\/a>, professor at Princeton, <a href=\"https:\/\/scitechdaily.com\/quantum-computing-breakthrough-silicon-qubits-interact-at-long-distance\/\">said that<\/a> &#8220;the ability to transmit messages across this distance on a silicon chip unlocks new capabilities for our quantum hardware. The eventual goal is to have multiple quantum bits arranged in a two-dimensional grid that can perform even more complex calculations. The study should help in the long term to improve communication of qubits on a chip as well as from one chip to another.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\" href=\"http:\/\/digg.com\/submit?url=https%3A%2F%2Fformtek.com%2Fblog%2Fquantum-computing-building-qubits-from-silicon%2F&amp;title=\"
