In order to secure data, you first need to know where it is, and that has become increasingly challenging, according to a report by McAfee<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Businesses are migrating their data from on-premise to cloud services. Data is sprawls across multiple services, and users use both personal and business devices to access that data. It’s difficult for businesses to get a handle on where their data is and how it is being used and shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

79 percent of companies allow their users to download data from the cloud to their unmanaged personal devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly half of files uploaded to a cloud service are eventually shared using publicly accessible links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rajiv Gupta<\/a>, senior vice president, Cloud Security, McAfee , said that<\/a> “the force of the cloud is unstoppable, and the dispersion of data creates new opportunities for both growth and risk. Security that is data-centric, creating a spectrum of controls from the device, through the web, into the cloud, and within the cloud provides the opportunity to break the paradigm of yesterday\u2019s network-centric protection that is not sufficient for today\u2019s cloud-first needs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joel Camissar<\/a>, McAfee regional director MVISION Cloud Asia Pacific, said that<\/a> “an in-depth understanding of where data goes, and how risks have evolved with the advancement of cloud infrastructure will help inform an appropriate cloud native security framework.”<\/p>\n
