Augmented Reality (AR) technology isn’t just for gamers. Manufacturers are becoming adopters of the technology too. It’s being used to annotate the parts, objects, and processes used for manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A report from PwC<\/a> found that<\/a> “what we\u2019re seeing, is that AR is an advanced manufacturing technology tool\u2014just like robotics, 3D printing and the Internet of Things.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AR can be used to superimpose instructions, information and statistics over objects and machinery. A user wearing an AR headset or glasses would be able to see information like temperature and performance of the equipment in the real world that surrounds them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N. Chandramouli<\/a>, CEO, TRA Research, said that<\/a> “AR helps users enhance and better visualize information. In oil & gas and aerospace sectors, it is being used to train people to run complex engineering parts. In real estate, it is being used to enable potential buyers to experience the spaces. It is also used during construction where, using the image of a particular site sub-section such as complex wiring or piping, the AR tab can give a step-by-step instruction on what action to take next.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shelley Peterson<\/a>, augmented technology project leader at Lockheed Martin, said that<\/a> “augmented reality is allowing us to complete space manufacturing activities in half the time. It\u2019s becoming a reality today.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sumit Sood<\/a>, Managing Director at GlobalLogic, said that<\/a> “AR technologies have advanced the experience of human-to-computer interactions for changing the customer experience. We are experiencing it in our day-to-day conversations with customers. From proof of concept to live projects, many innovations have shown to the world that AR has good commercial value and future potential.”<\/p>\n
