The last couple of years have seen growing interest in on-demand computing.\u00a0 The benefits can be compelling and include shorter development time, elimination of client rollouts, global availability, constant and continual upgrades, fewer internal IT resources required, etc.<\/p>\n

Certain application categories, like CRM, have seen tremedous acceptance of SaaS\/on-demand.\u00a0 But other categories haven’t.\u00a0 According to a new Forrester report, Records Management capabilities delivered via SaaS is one of those areas that isn’t in the cards to migrate to SaaS anytime soon.<\/p>\n

Forrester and ARMA International jointly interviewed<\/a> 400 records-management executives.\u00a0 Surprisingly, interest in on-demand deployments is actually down from last year.\u00a0 90 percent surveyed indicated that they had no interest in expanding their existing SaaS systems or implementing new SaaS projects in 2010.<\/p>\n

Problems with SaaS-based RM systems voiced by the executives were unfamiliarity with the on-demand technology (37 percent), and concerns in the areas of security, privacy, operations and legal.\u00a0 And of the few people who indicated that they would be considering SaaS in 2010, 60 percent did not have a pre-allocated budget and were not certain of how much money they would have for such an initiative.\u00a0 Only 2 percent had a budget with a plan of spending between $250,000 ands $500,000.<\/p>\n

For those groups that are using SaaS for records management, the drivers for their decision to use it were lower cost (48 percent) and quicker deployments (45 percent).\u00a0 But satisfaction with existing SaaS implementation were also not as high as one might expect.\u00a0 30 percent were very satisfied and another 21 percent
\nwere ‘satisified’ for a total postive rating of 51 percent.\u00a0 What’s going on with the other half of the people?<\/p>\n
