IT Trends: Non-Human Friends and Tablets Just Around the Corner

It’s near the close of the year, and analysts are rolling out their crystal balls to help them predict what the next year will bring.  Gartner has a set of  forecasts that stretch over the next two to four years.

Their predictions include:

  • 2013 – 80% of organizations will have employees using tablets
  • 2014 – 90% of organizations will let employees access corporate applications using personal or mobile devices, like notebooks and smartphones
  • 2015  – 10% of social media “friends” will be non-human
  • 2015  – a G20 nation will be hit by online sabotage, causing infrastructure damage and disruption
  • 2015 – CIO compensation will be tied more close to actual revenue being generated by IT
  • 2015 – Information-smart organizations will increase their IT spending per user by 60%
  • 2015 – Tools and automation will cause IT service hours to decline by 25%
  • 2015 – 20% of Global Fortune 500 non-IT companies will become cloud providers
