Enterprise Software: Supply Chain Software Market Picking Up
Another segment of the Enterprise Software market, Software Supply Chain Management, has rebounded over the last year after a couple of years of declines.
In 2009, the SCM market declined by 2.1 percent, doing better than a number of other Enterprise Software market segments, but in 2010, SCM came back strongly with a gain of 10 percent, roughly outpacing the ERP market by a factor of three. The SCM market is still very much centered in North America and Europe with 79 percent of all SCM sales coming from those two regions. The specific technology areas within SCM that saw growth included:
- Solutions integration
- Business process platforms
- Mobility
Chad Eschinger, research director at Gartner and one of the authors of the report, said that “despite a difficult selling environment, the current market for SCM shows signs of renewed health. The market for supply chain applications was more resilient than most in 2009 and rebounded well in 2010.”
