PLM: Companies Seeking Innovation Adopt PLM
A recent survey by CapGemini found that companies are looking to achive innovation and not cost savings when they make the decision to adopt a PLM system. The survey was made at the UGS Connection 2007 Americas User Conference held in late April by PLM World.
55% of those surveyed said innovation was most important, compared to 30% who thought that cost savings was the main driver, with Globalization, Compliance and Customer Demands all ranking low as reasons for adopting PLM.
While only 10% ranked PLM as the number one priority for their companies or organizations, a solid 45% found it to be of Major Importance and 40% found it to be at least Somewhat Important.
Important benefits of PLM cited include Reduced Time to Market (35%), Savings through re-use of Data (30%), and Collaboration (20%).
Users said that the optimal PLM strategy doesn’t depend so much on Technology (5%), but more on getting the Processes (40%) and Organization (40%) aligned with the PLM strategy. But users see Flexibility (60%) as the most important capability of a PLM system, more than Scalability (15%), Ease of Use (15%), or Robustness (10%).
