Content and Document Management in 2006

A number of year-end surveys looking for upcoming trends in 2006 find that Document and Content Management is poised for a banner year. This really comes as no surprise. A big driving force behind the growth is coming from the information and data management requirements of various compliance initiatives, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and now environmental compliance.

In 2006 Gartner sees growth in the Small and Medium sized Businesses (SMB) segment, and many of the top SMB IT software projects planned for 2006 include document management as a key complementary component.

AIIM’s survey of document management vendors and forecast for 2006 came to a similar conclusion. The number of content and document projects for this coming year is heating up, led by projects in Banking/Insurance/Finance, Healthcare, and government.

Intelligent Enterprise’s 2006 Strategic Management survey found high demand for document management as a support tool for enabling Business Intelligence gathering and analysis and tracking of unstructured data.
