Mobile Technology: 10 Billion Mobile Devices Expected by 2016

Mobile is booming. 61 percent of Americans or 143.3 million people now own smartphones — and 91 percent owns and uses a cell phone.

IDC estimates that the smartphone market is growing at 4.9 percent and as high as 32.4 percent in emerging markets.  After breaking the barrier of one billion smartphone shipments in 2013, 2014 is on track for shipping 1.25 billion smartphones.  By 2016, it’s expected that there will be more than 10 billion mobile Internet devices in use.  Market and Markets estimates that the Mobile Phone and Smartphone market will reach $341.4 billion by 2015.
