SOA Governance: No Clear Winners in a Packed Space
Gartner’s magic quadrant is available for 2007 SOA Governance Technology Sets. SOA governance is the set of “processes that an enterprise puts in place to ensure that things are done … in accordance with best practices, architectural principles, government regulations, laws, and other determining factors. SOA governance refers to the processes used to govern adoption and implementation of SOA. [Anne Thomas Manes]” The Gartner report ranks companies involved in creating technology tool sets for SOA Governance.
This is not a short list. 18 companies are reviewed by the report, ranging from well known players like Software AG, IBM and HP to less well known companies like Vordel and Logic Libraries. The striking thing about the mapping is that shows most companies clustered just to the right of center of the chart. Companies are showing ‘vision’, but could be stronger in their “ability to execute”. With so many companies active in this space and with no real standouts, it seems likely that this space will see continued consolidation.
The report ranks the “Leaders,” “Challengers,” “Visionaries” and “Niche Players”, and summarizes the vendors strengths and weaknesses. The report is a good tool for trying to understand what’s happening in the SOA Governance space.
