Health Care: Providers not Proactive When Managing IT and Security
Health care providers are stuck in low gear in managing IT and security, according to to a report by Black Book that summarizes expected health care trends in 2017.
Some of Black Book’s predictions for 2017 include:
- Hospitals and health providers continue to do little to improve data security. Black Book found that 95 percent are just hoping for the best rather than investing in better security. Black Book suggests that not until cyberattacks happen will they begin to improve their security defenses.
- Health care providers have kept their IT budgets stagnant. 77 percent don’t expect to increase IT spending or staffing through the first half of 2017.
- Smaller hospitals with less than 200 beds aren’t collecting data that could be used for analytics. Analytics would be able to provide actionable data that could help improve operations. The survey found only six percent are collecting data.
- Health care providers will need to use Enterprise Resource Planning systems to help them provide better value-based care.
