The Software Defined Enterprise: Composable Infrastructure

Composable Infrastructure is the total software management of compute, storage and networking infrastructure.  It decomposes each of those basic elements of infrastructure into pools of resources that can be turned on or off as needed. Composable Infrastructure brings together ideas like software-defined storage, software-defined networking and server virtualization into a single vendor-neutral platform that can be controlled by a single API.

Gary Thome, Vice President at HPE, described composable infrastructure as ” the next evolution in data center computing because it enables IT organizations to create the infrastructure they need with incredible velocity, and it does so while reducing the operational cost and complexity of traditional silo approaches. It’s ideal for traditional workloads and environments, as well as newer cloud and mobile apps. Think of it as your infrastructure as code.”

David Chalmers, vice president and chief technologist at HPE, said that “we are now at the point with composable infrastructure where you have infrastructure as code: literally a single command line or line of code to deploy a piece of resource to allow you to run your infrastructure.”
