SOA: Dead, but Still Serves Up High Satisfaction

By Dick Weisinger

Levels of satisfaction for companies using SOA are soaring.  That’s despite the fact that analysts are delivering obituaries for the technology, and many companies are saying that in this down economy they’re eliminating spending on any new projects like SOA.

CA surveyed 615 companies involved in SOA projects and 92% of them said that the results that they’ve seen with SOA have met or exceeded their expectations.  90% of those surveyed were satisfied with the performance of the technology.  Even companies that said that ran into issues during their SOA implementations, on the CA “SOA pain scale”, most respondents reported the pain was relatively small.

Implementations of SOA to date have been fairly evenly split in how they’re being handled organizationally. 40% say that the business side of the company is actively involved in steering progress, while another 40% say that IT is driving the effort.
