Compliance: Unified Compliance
Thinking about and planning for compliance is not easy.
What normally comes to mind when you think compliance are things like processes, audits and software applications that manage information types like email, documents and records. But when considering compliance, there is a wide scope of hardware and infrastructure beyond just software applications that need to be scrutinized.
And there are many different regulations and associated types of compliance. Very often multiple regulations will apply to an organization. “Unified compliance” is a holistic term that refers to the configuration management of the aggregate of all compliance requirements that an organization is subject to.
Organizations need to include IT infrastructure in their plans for ensuring compliance. That includes application software, of course, but also a compliant data network, and compliant SAN devices and files systems.
Compliance and security go hand-in-hand in these systems. Systems are complex because of new technologies like virtualization of SANs and file systems. Virtualization is making it easy to decentralize and scatter information across multiple repositories. Ensuring that these systems are secure and compliant and being able to determine where specific data is being housed and with what security it has been stored can be a difficult task.
