Open Data: SAP/Microsoft/Adobe Team for Open Data Alliance
Recently, Adobe, Microsoft and SAP announced the Open Data Initiative, a plan where the three vendors work together to create better data interoperability between their software products.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO , said that “together with Adobe and SAP, we are taking a first, critical step to helping companies achieve a level of customer and business understanding that has never before been possible. Organisations everywhere have a massive opportunity to build AI-powered digital feedback loops for predictive power, automated workflows and, ultimately, improved business outcomes.”
Goals for the new Data Alliance include:
- Free up siloed data
- Allow data to move between any of the three vendor cloud platforms
- Enable more standard measures for managing security and privacy
- Build applications that can intelligently span data and services from Adobe, SAP, Microsoft and their partners
Microsoft also led a parallel effort with Google, Facebook and Twitter that was announced in July 2018 that allows data to be more easily transferred between these services. That project was called the Data Transfer Project and built on work that Google had done to enable transfer of data between different cloud services. That project enabled data to flow more smoothly between applications like Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and MS OneDrive.
