By Dick Weisinger

The latest Forrester Wave results for Web Content Management are out and SDL Tridion has come out on top. The report is titled “The Forrester Wave™: Web Content Management For External Sites, Q2 2009”. The rankings in the report across all vendors are as follows:

Leaders:                  SDL Tridion, Interwoven, And FatWire
Strong Performers: Vignette, Open Text, Day Software, Oracle, And Microsoft
Contenders:            IBM And EMC

Vendors are rated on the Features and Architecture of their current offering, the company long-term strategy, and their Market presence.

The report also identifies the business drivers for WCM as seen by businesses.  The percentages of businesses as citing the driveers for increased deployment or usage of Web content management include:

63%  Improved Web site customer experiences
37%  Web operations cost reduction
25%  New eBusiness initiatives
25%  Improved employee communication

The Forrester report finds that many of the vendors have adopted Web 2.0 technologies to reduce the amount of clicking and screen refreshes needed to use the software.  Those types of interfaces are typically more intuitive and require less training to use. Some tools also provide integration points with desktop authoring tools like Microsoft Word, making it easier for infrequent contributors to be able to more easily participate.
