Content Management: Poor Economy Isn't Stopping Growth in WCM

By Dick Weisinger

Even though the economy is in tatters and many, if not most, budgets have dried up, companies are still making it a priority to find dollars to fund Web Content Management projects.  That’s the finding of a report by analyst Stephen Powers at Forrester Research.  Companies still see WCM as an area that can provide a way for them to distinguish themselves from competitors.

  • 72 percent of companies plan to increase money for WCM plus another 19 percent plan to stick with their current level of investment.
  • 64 percent of companies see WCM as a way for them to improve their customer experience
  • 25 percent of companies hope to use WCM asd a way to streamline their web publishing process
  • 64 percent of companies are attempting to use WCM to personalize their experience
  • 61 percent are seeking to transform their web sites using rich Internet application technologies
  • 55 percent of companies want to add audio and video capabilities to their site

The news is one bright spot in the industry.  But not everything is good news for vendors — in general, users are dissatisfied with their WCM initiatives, although vendors aren’t at the root of the problem:  corportate politics and mismatch of business and IT alignment were cited as the main reasons for the problems.
