Enterprise Technology: Six Trends Driving the Market

At the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g rollout, Hasan Rizvi, senior vice president of Oracle Fusion Middleware products, outlined six trends that Oracle sees as driving the Enterprise Middleware software market. Three of the trends are coming from the business side, and the other three are driven by technology. Joe McKendrick reported the trends described by Oracle at the rollout meeting.

Business Trends

  1. Flexibility. Businesses need to be more agile to survive, and businesses are relying on IT more and more to support that need for flexibility and agility.
  2. Business Analytics. Companies want software system to be able to provide better and more in-depth business intelligence.
  3. Empowerment of End-Users. Web 2.0 capabilities and self-service easy-to-use software allow users to better collaborate and to reduces the need for support from IT.

IT Trends

  1. Hardware Capability. Hardware prices have dropped while hardware technology continues to rev-up. Storage, RAM, and computing power promote ever more capable software.
  2. Data Center Architecture. Data Centers are becoming more efficient, especially in the use of technologies like virtualization.
  3. Services. Companies have a great interest in software as a service, provided via a ‘public cloud’ or their own ‘private cloud’.
