SOA: Experiencing Turbulance, But Seeing Healthy Growth

By Dick Weisinger

SOA is on a path to grow from the current $3.3 billion to $10.3 billion by 2015 — that amounts to a 17 percent annual growth.  That’s the result of a report by Wintergreen Research.

While many have been critical of SOA lately, IT departments are attracted to the technology because it allows decoupled components to be easily integrated together — and that means that upgrades  and feature expansion can be done more quickly and cost effectively than previously.  In fact, the report suggests that IT departments may be able to reduce their costs by up to 90 percent by adopting SOA.

Further, the report shows that IBM is dominating the SOA market with about 70 percent market share with the rest being divided up among 12 other vendors.
